Across the Nullarbor

A journey from the red centre to the west coast.

Eric and I began our amazing trip in Alice Springs. Visiting the old telegraph station brought to life the incredible resilience the early settlers had in being able to survive in the harsh environment of Central Australia.

From Alice Springs we journeyed to the world famous Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, home to the awesome Ayres Rock (Uluru) and Olgas (Kata Tjuta). We spent the afternoon exploring Ayres Rock, topped off watching the rock glow red in a spectacular sunset. Hiking through the spectacular Olgas on the Valley of the Winds walk was a highlight of the trip. We then ventured to Kings Canyon, where we tried beating the flies on an early morning walk around the canyon.

Crossing the border into South Australia, we explored Coober Pedy, famous for its opals and underground dwellings and Woomera, still used to this day for rocket testing. Further south, we explored the green Eyre Peninsula, before heading west across the mighty Nullarbor Plain. Highlights here included the incredible blue ocean at the Great Australian Bight as well as the endless barren plains.

Crossing into Western Australia, we were enthralled by the pure white sands of the beaches, the magnificent tall trees around Walpole and the impressive caves near Margaret River. Finishing our adventure in Perth, we got used to driving once more in the big city after thousands of kilometres of empty roads.
