Great River Walk

★★☆☆☆

The Great River Walk is an 8 km walk that follows the banks of the Nepean River at Penrith and Emu Plains. The most popular section of the walk is the Bridge to Bridge loop, which had over 100 people on the Saturday morning that I visited as it coincided with the weekly park run event. Come later or on another day if you prefer to avoid the crowds.

While there are multiple access points to the walk, Tench Reserve is a great place to start and end the walk, having plenty of parking, picnic facilities, playgrounds and toilets. There is even a cafe close by, but also one on the way at Emu Plains. While most of the walk follows a shared cycle path, there was a section along Nepean Avenue which required walking on the road (no footpaths).
