★★★☆☆

The Towrang Stockade was the barracks for the chain-gang and the soldiers guarding them who worked on the construction of the Great South Road between Marulan and Goulburn between 1833 to 1843. The site is located near the Derrick VC rest area and features the foundations of a number of buildings, a relatively intact powder magazine, cemetery as well as a stone bridge and a number of culverts. Note that the bridge and culverts are best accessed from the rest area on the southern side of the Hume Highway, while the stockade is located north of the highway.
