Dear Xilinx Customer,

Welcome, and thank you for choosing the Xilinx Integrated Software
Environment (ISE) Series 5.2i software. This file contains the
information that you need to install the software and documentation. 
See the following resources for additional information:

* READ ME FIRST Hot Sheet (print): provides important information
  you need to know before installing the software.

* Welcome Letter (print): lists items included in the box shipped to 
  you by Xilinx.

* ISE 5.2i Release Notes and Installation Guide (print): lists ISE 5.2i
  software CDs and contents and provides installation instructions.
  The "ISE 5.2i Documentation" chapter provides detailed information
  about the new features in the ISE 5.2i release.

Note: If you are a WebPACK customer, please refer to the ISE 5.2i 
Release Notes and Installation Guide available on the Web and the 
What's New in Xilinx ISE 5.2i HTML file available on this CD.

Software Installation
*********************
You must load both the ISE Disk 1 and ISE Disk 2 CDs to successfully 
install your software, unless you are a WebPACK customer. WebPACK
customers only need to install ISE Disk 1. See the ISE 5.2i Release 
Notes and Installation Guide for more information on software
installation.

Note: For information on the software version and service pack loaded
on your computer, see the FILESET.TXT file available from the Xilinx
XInfo System Checker. Launch the XInfo System Checker from your
operating system as follows:
* Windows: Select Start > Programs > Xilinx ISE 5 > Accessories > XInfo
  System Checker.
* UNIX: Run the xinfo file from the bin/sol or bin/sol64 directory.
* LINUX: Type the following: wine bin/nt/xinfo.exe

Software Registration
*********************
When you register your software, you receive a 12-digit Registration ID
that is necessary for installation. Registration of Xilinx software on 
a "per end user" basis ensures that you receive the full complement of 
support and services to which you are entitled.

Choose one of the following registration options, which are presented
during installation:

* Website (fastest approach)
* E-mail
* Fax

Note: WebPACK customers are entitled to Web support only. For more 
information, please see the Help page available from the WebPACK 
download page at: http://www.xilinx.com/webpack/support/help.htm

Software Manuals Collection Installation
****************************************
The documentation is automatically installed as part of the software
installation.

Note: The documentation is not installed as part of WebPACK
installations.

Adobe Acrobat Reader+Search Installation
****************************************
To ensure that you can view and search the PDF manuals, upgrade to 
Adobe Acrobat Reader+Search, version 4.0, as follows:

UNIX: (not available to WebPACK customers)
1. cd to the root directory of the CD.
2. cd to the acrobat directory.
3. cd to the sol directory.
4. Copy the file in this directory to a local directory.
5. cd to the local directory.
6. Unzip the file and then extract the contents of the tar file.
7. cd to the SSOLRS.install directory.
8. Follow the instructions in the INSTGUID.TXT file provided by Adobe.  
 
PC:
1. Go to the root directory of the CD.
2. Go to the acrobat directory.
3. Go to the pc directory.
4. Double-click the executable file.

Access to the Software Manuals
******************************
After you install the Software Manuals collection, you can select the
Help > Online Documentation command from your GUI tools to access
the collection.

For added convenience, Xilinx Software Manuals are also on the Web. Go 
to http://support.xilinx.com and click the "Software Manuals" button
in the left navigation bar. 

If you want to read a PDF file individually, go to the docs directory
of the ISE Disk 1 CD, go to the manual's directory, and open the PDF 
file. Following is a list of the PDF files and the corresponding manual 
titles:

* cgd.pdf - Constraints Guide
* cgn.pdf - CORE Generator Guide
* dev.pdf - Development System Reference Guide
* gls.pdf - Global Glossary
* hdl.pdf - Xilinx/Concept-HDL Interface Guide
* lib.pdf - Libraries Guide
* men.pdf - Mentor Graphics Interface Guide
* pac.pdf - iMPACT User Guide
* qst.pdf - ISE Quick Start Tutorial
* sim.pdf - Synthesis and Simulation Design Guide
* xsi.pdf - Xilinx/Synopsys Interface Guide
* xst.pdf - Xilinx Synthesis Technology (XST) User Guide

Note: The CORE Generator and FPGA Editor software are not available
with WebPACK installations.

Known Issues
************
The ISE 5.2i Release Notes and Installation Guide contains a list of
known issues and workaround information. You can also use the following
resources to get answers: 

* Go to http://support.xilinx.com/support/searchtd.htm  
  Use the "Answers Search" to search the Xilinx Technical Support 
  website.

* Go to http://support.xilinx.com/support/troubleshoot/psolvers.htm
  Use the Problem Solver tools to troubleshoot design obstacles.

* If you do not have access to the Web, find answers in the 
  "DataSource" CD, which is available from your local FAE.
